2024 was a year of political transition for the UnitedKingdom. With the end of 14 years of Conservative government, the nations’ eyeshave turned to Keir Starmer and a new era of Labour in power. Scotland, Wales,and Northern Ireland also acquired new First Ministers, following the collapseof coalitions, donation scandal, and restoration of governing arrangements,respectively. Despite a historic victory and one of the largest parliamentarymajorities in Commons history, Starmer also has to grapple with the realitiesof the most disproportionate electoral result following the substantial voteshare obtained by the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK. While a five-year termmay seem like a long time to push towards Starmer’s key missions, theelectorate will be demanding early signs of progress.
